CATCH REPORT - 26 June/3 July 2009
by Cavagnac Bailiff
This week has proved to be just as eventful as last if not more, it will take some going to beat the appearance of Gold last week at 50.5lbs for Matthew Mayhew but read on to find out!
Mustafa Mustafa and Husayin Husayin had an eventful week on The Boards swim, an area that controls a large area of open water in the centre of the lake. They were both kept busy throughout the week with both of them landing some good fish, another happy angler graced the banks of Lac Chateau Cavagnac alongside a stunning 46lb mirror with awesome weather to boot.

James Overman and Craig Handley hit the jackpot when they decided to fish the channel swim this week, this area of the lake is quite deep and controls a long 'channel' branching off from the main body of the lake with a good spread of lily beds at the bottom end of the swim. The channel has been known for its big fish captures and Craig Handley experienced first hand the power of the big Cavagnac carp landing a fish that hardly ever makes an appearance but made an awesome account for itself when it did slip up giving him the a real good run around in the deep water. Craig slid the net under the 'the rare one' at a new P.B weight of 42lbs, he fished a fluoro Scopex squid liver pop up over a 20mm matching bottom bait to present a snowman close to the lily's. James hooked and landed a long 36lb common from the other side of the swim and used similar rigs and tactics to mate Craig.
The action didn't stop there as more fish were landed and Craig once again felt the rod bend double as he hooked another big Cavagnac 'scrapper.' This time Cavagnac specials tight to the lilies proved to be the successful bait and upped Craig's PB again!!! This time smashing it by 8lb with a fish that's known by bailiff David who claimed 'the fish has really packed on the weight through the summer, it was well down in weight around spawning time but now this fish is looking really healthy.' At 54lbs it certainly made the week one to remember for the duo who both used 18lb Bullet Mono 4oz leads and used size 4 Fang X hooks.

Simon McCabe of Skyblue Creations enjoyed the beautiful sunshine as well as catching some good Cavagnac carp. Partner Jane seemed far more interested the sun lounger and left Simon to the fishing, much to his delight I've heard!! Simon landed some good fish during the week topped off with a 34lb mirror.

Craig Langton and Mark Cameron both landed notable fish of 38lb and 36lb and both sported quite bizarre headwear for the photos!! Whatever floats your boat I suppose!

Until Next time,
Be Lucky.
